False Creek Community Centre Wedding
What an unbelievable day April 2nd turned out to be for G & T’s wedding on Granville Island. For a brief moment summer arrived with clear blue skies and relatively balmy temps. The setting, False Creek Community Centre, was magically transformed from gymnasium to an “elegant rustic chic” soiree by the talented Ashley Bond and crew from Spread Love. Beautiful harvest tables, Belgian linen accents, fresh spring flower arrangements in coloured glass vases, and gorgeous lights strung throughout the room set the tone.
Of course the specialty cocktail was a G & T, but made with ‘Wallflower Gin’ and ‘Phillips Artisanal Dry Tonic’, garnished with rosemary, cucumber and lime. The BEST G & T ever.
Our menu consisted of simple classics of marinated flank steak, roasted salmon and seasonal veggies served family-style, but all with some rustic French touches. Artisan breads were accompanied by a burnt green onion dip, along with Mason Jar cornichons. So French. ‘Hannah Brook Farm’ provided the fresh spring greens and sorrel for the salad, and heirloom carrots arrived fresh from the farm and were roasted with Moroccan spices and honey, and topped with labneh. And as a finale, ‘Ernest Ice Cream’ accompanied the fruit and berry crumble dessert.
Here’s a little of what the bride had to say about her day…
‘THANK YOU SO MUCH for helping make our wedding day as wonderful as it was. The food was absolutely outstanding – people are still talking about how perfect it was. I have no idea how you managed to cook large quantities of beef and fish with such absolute perfection, but you did. And the service was impeccable. Based on what I had heard about you, I had high expectations, but you by far exceeded them! A million thank yous to you and your staff. Again, thank you so much for making our day so wonderful. From start to finish – the delicious picnic lunch and your kind willingness to deliver sandwiches to my parents, to the canapes, killer cocktails (so I hear), perfect food and service – you blew everyone’s minds. Wish we could experience it all over again.
