31 Jan Royal Inspiration Wedding Trends for 2019
By and large, Canadians love the Queen! We love that we are connected to the rich tradition of monarchy, and the pageantry, pomp and circumstance that go with it. And while we love Liz’s face on our money, what so many of us Canucks really get excited about are the royal weddings and the inspiration that they provide to us commoners! Indeed, 2018 was a banner year for royal weddings as both Meghan and Harry and Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank tied the purple knot! There is nothing better than a royal wedding to get a sneak peek at what the trends will be for the year ahead! And while you may not be a royal or getting married to one, their wedding menus are achievable with the right custom caterer!
Feast Fit for a King (or a bride and groom)
Let’s start with Meghan and Harry. According to guests, the food bowls were a big hit. These bowls were designed so that guests could stand and mingle while dining. A more informal approach that seems to fit with Harry and Meghan’s easy-going vibe. This idea is a great way to serve food at your wedding reception and allows for a more social (and convenient) way for your guests to enjoy the cuisine. This could definitely be a great idea to try!
Harry and Meghan traded the traditional sit-down dinner for a more informal ‘mix and mingle’ vibe. The menu consisted of the following:
- Scottish Langoustines wrapped in Smoked Salmon with Citrus Creme Fraiche
- Grilled English Asparagus wrapped in Cumbrian Ham
- Garden Pea Panna Cotta with Quail Eggs and Lemon Verbena
- Heritage Tomato and Basil Tartare with Balsamic Pearls
- Poached Free Range Chicken bound in a Lightly Spiced Yoghurt with Roasted Apricot
- Croquette of Confit Windsor Lamb, Roasted Vegetables and Shallot Jam
- Warm Asparagus Spears with Mozzarella and Sun-Blush Tomatoes
Some of the trendier bowls served were:
- Fricassee of Free-Range Chicken with Morel Mushrooms and Young Leeks
- Pea and Mint Risotto with Pea Shoots, Truffle Oil and Parmesan Crisps
- Ten Hour Slow Roasted Windsor Lamb Pork Belly with Apple Compote and Crackling
Eugenie and Jack
It appears that Princess Eugenie and Jack took a page from Meghan and Harry and opted for a more informal wedding menu experience. Indeed, funfair rides, coconut shies, lots of food stalls, cocktails and bloody Mary’s were the order of the day. Among the dishes were a rice dish from Nicaragua where Jack proposed, and mini-hamburgers from the United States–a nod to the American-based company, Hauser & Wirth, for whom Eugenie works. Both menu items are easily duplicated for your wedding!
The royal couple also opted for a more personal touch in the form of tequila cocktails, created by Jack, who works for Casamigos, a high-end brand of tequila. It’s a great idea that anyone can do. Creating bespoke cocktails is a fun way to personalize your wedding and add your own personality to your big day!
