28 Jan Romance for Romance’s Sake The Valentine’s Day-Themed Wedding
It’s no secret that our Head Honcho, Donna Wadsworth, loves Love! It’s probably one of the main reasons why her custom-catered weddings are the stuff of legend in Vancouver. I think it’s fair to say that you can’t really be a great wedding caterer if you don’t have an abiding passion for Love in all its forms and iterations. With that in mind, we thought it would be apropos to talk about the Valentines-themed Wedding! For those who are fans of the most romantic day of the year and want to infuse that spirit into your big day, this is a must read! Having a Valentine’s Day wedding doesn’t necessarily mean tying the knot on February 14th. It’s more about bringing the V-day vibes to your wedding aesthetic—it’s about evoking the romance and excitement that lovers of Love, well, love.
The Colour of Love
When it comes to setting the Valentine’s Day mood, we’d recommend a mix of lush, regal and vintage furniture accented with deep reds (think velvet couches), pinks and gold. It’s about creating a warm romantic look–think Victorian formality but with playful touches of colour. We’d recommend discussing the look you want with your wedding planner well in advance of the big day so that you can perfect the look you’re going for! From candle holders, to table clothes, romance is in the details.
The Romance of Cuisine
Of course, the food at your Valentines-themed wedding is paramount. There are so many gastronomic options which you’ll want to discuss with your caterer well in advance. A plated dinner would work very well with the romantic theme–think date night at a Michelin starred establishment. In keeping with the theme of the night, you may want to consider a gastronomic nod to a more classical cuisine. Think filet mignon, freshly-shucked oysters—leaning towards Italian or French will certainly bring out the romance in the room! Whatever menu you choose, we’d recommend making sure the ingredients and produce are all fresh, seasonal, organic and, above all, flavourful–all the food you choose for your big day should, as Marie Kondo says, “spark joy!”
A Valentine’s Day themed wedding is the perfect excuse to nix the plain white and opt for a more whimsical approach to dessert plates. Think heart-shaped cookies decorated with pastel pinks and silvers. And if you’re wondering what to give as a wedding favour, Valentine’s Day themed macarons are a classy touch. Add to that the fact that most wedding guests would prefer an edible over say, seeds to plant in their garden or candles (people have enough candles)!
Flowers, Flowers, and More Flowers
When it comes to a Valentine’s Day themed wedding, you can never have too many flowers! Don’t be afraid to go all out here! How about a wedding runway of ombre rose petals! And don’t leave the flowers relegated to centrepieces—why not add edible flowers to simple wreath cookies for that Instagram perfect picture!
So, if you love Valentine’s Day as much as we do and are thinking of creating a romance-themed wedding worthy of the Big Love Day, please feel free to call or email! We’d LOVE to hear from you!
