03 Jul Catering, Literally!
Life is good to those who live it, and those who live well, eat well. Indeed, food is such an integral part of our lives–it’s at the centre of our most important moments. From first dates to weddings and anniversaries, good food is the common denominator.
At the Heart of Our Collective Narrative
It’s no wonder, then, that artists and authors and creatives, in general, have featured food and dining prominently in their work. It makes sense, as food is at the heart of our collective narrative–a central character in our life’s story. Food is romantic, sensual, thrilling, exhilarating. It’s how we show our love and affection. It’s sensory and life-affirming.
Savoury City’s Food Philosophy
In this spirit, we thought we’d celebrate our passion for great food with some passages from authors and artists that resonate with our culinary philosophy. We think they’ll speak to you too!
“Food is symbolic of love when words are inadequate.”
–Alan D. Wolfelt
We’re a pretty articulate bunch here at Savoury City, but we totally appreciate this sentiment. We believe that food, prepared with care and attention, expresses community and brings diverse people together. When you hire us for your event, the message you’re sending to your family and friends is one of affection, love, and respect. Indeed, organic, locally-sourced, artisanal and market-fresh produce and ingredients speak louder than mere words!
“One cannot think well, love well, sleep well, if one has not dined well.”
This passage really speaks to us! Taking time out of one’s day to prepare and enjoy a beautiful meal can be cathartic, healing and even a spiritual experience, allowing us to process, wonder, dream and function more effectively. You can’t get that from a Big Mac and fries! To be clear, dining well does not mean it has to be expensive or extravagant. Simple, fresh, healthy and prepared with love–that’s all it takes.
“There is no sincerer love than the love of food.”
–George Bernard Shaw
Gastronomy and romance have always gone hand in hand. Cooking and dining are inherently sensual in the true meaning of the word. Indeed, it’s a sensory experience–flavours, textures, notes, and tones combined with the right setting, music and person can be a truly exhilarating experience!
True lovers of food are known to get weepy over the memory of a particularly pungent Parisienne fromage or giddy while reminiscing about perfectly grilled calamari in Crete. Also, food doesn’t cheat, lie or steal your heart.
“We all eat, and it would be a sad waste of opportunity to eat badly.”
– Anna Thomas
My mother always said, “if you’re going to do something, you should do it with excellence.” It makes sense to extend that sage advice to eating. Like Thomas’ passage implies, life is too short to eat badly. We firmly believe that food is life, and when you eat well, you are honouring, celebrating and extolling its virtues! Love yourself; eat well.
We hope you enjoyed reading these passages! Feel free to send us some of your favourite quotes about food and we’ll post them! Here’s to living and eating well!
