UBC Boathouse Family-Style Wedding
L & A ,with invited family and friends from near and far, came together for their delightful spring wedding at UBC Boathouseon Friday March 10th. The ceremony was tented on the dock, and thankfully the weather cooperated beautifully – after the winter we’ve had, you can appreciate the skepticism! Following the short ceremony, a cocktail hour commenced, also on the dock, with our service team tray passing 6 hors d’oeuvres including: tuna cones, vegetarian salad rolls, shortrib tartlets, salmon lollipops, fig shortbread, and crispy pork belly skewers along with wine and beer. The crowd was ravenous and our crew had to work out clever strategies in making sure everyone was served.
After the cocktail hour, guests make their way up stairs to a family-style dinner showcasing the couple’s Italian and New Zealand heritage. The room, transformed magically by Bespoke Decor, was punctuated with thoughtful rustic touches including miniature baguettes in hand-lettered brown bread bags as place settings.
The barn-board surfaced bar, set-up outside on the upper deck, was also tented, and had a back-bar shelving unit and menu allowing guests to easily see what was on offer. A great deal of thought went into planning how guests would flow through the UBC Boathouse space, and the results were seamless.
The family-style dinner service began with an antipasto platter for each table, followed by two pasta dishes. The entrees featured our signature chick-etta with sage and prosciutto and balsamic and rosemary flank steak, accompanied by grilled seasonal vegetables, roasted multi-colored potatoes, and polenta cakes.
